We are PANAsac, the Peri-Anesthesia Nurses Association, Southern Alberta Chapter.
Our History: The Peri-Anesthesi Nurses of Alberta (PANA) interest group originally began in 1989-1990, and covered the entire province. With the majority of members living in either the Edmonton or Calgary area, the interest group divided into 2 subgroups:
- Northern Alberta Chapter (NAC) consists of the area Red Deer and north
- Southern Alberta Chapter (SAC) consists of the area south of Red Deer
PANAsac is an affiliate of the National Association of Peri-Anesthesia Nurses of Canada (NAPANc), and is a recognized Specialty Interest Group of the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).
Mission Statement:
We are a special interest group dealing with Peri-Anesthesia nursing. Our purpose is to promote excellence in PeriAnesthesia nursing by providing an opportunity for Peri-Anesthesia nurses to expand and update their nursing knowledge through educational sessions, and bring together nurses committed to this specialty.
PANAsac Objectives:

To promote the highest standards of practice in the field of Peri-Anesthesia Nursing.

To provide opportunity for professional development of Peri-Anesthesia Nursing through the presentation of educational sessions.

To advance education for Peri-AnesthesiaNurses across southern Alberta through the provision of finacial assistance.

To provide an opportunity for Peri-Anesthesia nurses to meet and exchange ideas of common professional interest.

To establish cooperation and liaise with all groups, associations, institutions, or bodies that may impact an affect the objectives of PANAsac.

To promote interest in Peri-Anesthesia Nursing as a unique nursing specialty.

To broaden public awareness of the role of the Peri-Anesthesia Nurse as a vital member of the health care team.

To assist with input and development for a national examination for Peri-Anesthesia Nurses in Canada to obtain certification.
